Island Info

TRNC (Turkish Republic of North Cyprus) or Northern Cyprus as we say, it is good to know that you can fly direct to Larnaca, where you will be collected at the airport. Half an hour later you pass through the border and into the country that the rest of the world still  doesn’t recognize, even after more than 30 years.

The difference between the north and south is enormous. With different languages, culture and religions, it seems it is just the weather they have in common.

Even after 30 years of isolation, Northern Cyprus has much to offer those who want to experience the real Cyprus. The small picturesque villages are still unspoilt by tourism and the kindness of everyone you meet is genuine.

I have chosen to live in this isolated part of the world,  and now I would like to share my favourite places.

Cypriot cuisine is a mixture of food from the Arab countries and Turkey, an exciting cuisine.

Northern Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean -it  is located about 60 km from Turkey and around 750km from Greece.

The main advantage of Northern Cyprus is that you can still visit all the sights without being rushed,   Crusader castles, monastic ruins, icon museum or shopping in Lefkosa / Nicosia, the only divided capital in Europe. You can also see the turtles laying their eggs in June-early August, mid August to September, the young hatch and then are measured and data recorded by students who come from England. Out on the Karpaz peninsula (eastern tip) are wild donkeys. There is much to experience and see for those who are interested.

There are several interesting excursions to choose from Eg Lefkosa half day, and ruins of Salamis Famagusta a whole day, ST: Hillarion and Bella Pais Monastery full or half day. Or a 2 day trip to the eastern tip, where time stands still and has done for 30 years.

Night life in the old port is an enjoyable experience – there are plenty of restaurants. Why not take a  boat and spend the day enjoying the sun and swimming from the side of it . In spring and autumn  I  also arrange cycling tours with a 7 day duration, where you are able to see a different side of Northern Cyprus beauty.
